IAFC Foundation Scholarships

The IAFC Foundation recognizes the complex world in which first responders operate. Science, technology, communications, and policy are constantly changing and evolving. It's critical that our first responders master the challenges of today and tomorrow. The IAFC Foundation helps ensure that our men and women are prepared to meet these challenges by providing opportunities to support their educational needs.

 

Several scholarship programs are offered by the IAFC Foundation. See details below on the various programs:

Arthur J. Glatfelter Memorial Scholarship

The Arthur J. Glatfelter Scholarship was established through a generous endowment gift from the Glatfelter Insurance Group and VFIS. The scholarship recognizes Mr. Glatfelter’s steadfast support for the fire and emergency services, including his relentless advocacy for firefighters across the United States.

Chief Charles A. "Chet" Henry Memorial Scholarship

The Chief Charles “Chet” Henry Scholarship was established with support from VFIS to honor the memory of Chief Henry. It is awarded to a qualified applicant at the discretion of the selection committee.

Garry L. Briese Scholarship
The Garry L. Briese Scholarship was established with generous support from the Motorola Solutions Foundation. Preference is given to Driver/Engineers and Lieutenants pursuing AA/AS or BA/BS degrees.

Heather Westphal Memorial Scholarship
The Heather Westphal Scholarship was established with support from the IAFC and iWOMEN to honor the memory of Heather Westphal. It is given to a female first responder.

IAFC President’s Scholarship
This scholarship honors IAFC Presidents and their support for aspiring leaders in the fire and emergency services. Recipients represent the future of the fire service’s commitment to lead, serve and protect our communities.

IAFC Federal & Military Services Section Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an applicant who is an IAFC Federal & Military Services Section member or who works in a federal or military fire department.

John M. Buckman, III Scholarship
This scholarship honors Chief John Buckman and is reserved for a volunteer who is working toward his/her AA/AS or BA/BS degree in a fire science program.

General Educational Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants at the discretion of the selection committee.

Fire Explorers
The IAFC Foundation offers educational scholarships to Fire Explorers. Fire Service Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women ages 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) to 20 years of age. The scholarships assist those pursuing a career in the fire sciences or any related academic program.
