IAFC Foundation and Emergent Bio Solutions announce hazmat scholarship recipients

(June 17, 2016) The International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation (IAFCF) announced 10 first responders and safety officers have been selected to receive 2016 hazmat conference scholarship awards. These scholarships are made possible through a grant from Emergent BioSolutions and provide each recipient with full conference registration and a stipend to attend the International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference, June 16-19 in Baltimore.

The recipients include:

Timothy Carson, Safety Officer, Brighton (NY) Volunteer Fire Company

Joseph Craig, Lieutenant, Conroe (TX) Fire Department

Derek Hirons, Firefighter/Paramedic, Town of Holden (MA) Fire Department

Corey Johnson, Firefighter/Paramedic, Williston (ND) Fire Department

Matthew Miller, Engineer, Ruckersville (VA) Volunteer Fire Department

Kregg Phillips, Lieutenant, Austin (TX) Fire Department

Rudy Ruiz, Deputy Fire Chief, Perrysburg (OH) Fire Division

Mac Thomas, Captain, Rock Hill (SC) Fire Department

Dana Tissue, Lieutenant, Central Pierce (WA) Fire/Rescue Department

Since 1983, the IAFC’s International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference has been providing first responders with immediate, practical and valuable training designed to ensure they can successfully meet the demands of hazmat response in today's challenging environment. 

 

 

IAFC Foundation and Emergent Bio Solutions partner to support hazmat training for first responders

(February 15, 2016) The International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation (IAFCF) has received a $10,000 grant from Emergent BioSolutions to provide 12 scholarships for qualified hazmat response professionals to attend the International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference, June 16-19 in Baltimore. The scholarships will provide a full conference registration and a $250 travel/housing stipend for each recipient. 

“We thank Emergent BioSolutions for supporting the IAFC Foundation’s initiatives to train the next generation of first responders,” said Anthony P. Campisi, president of the IAFC Foundation and president/CEO of Glatfelter Insurance Group. “With the ever changing demands of hazmat response, it is imperative that our first responders have the skills and training necessary to protect their communities. This grant is a great step forward in making such training available.”

IAFC Foundation recieves Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant COLS I offered in Georgia

(April 13, 2015) The IAFC Foundation has received a $75,000 grant from Motorola Solutions Foundation for 2015.The Motorola Solutions Foundation, through its Public Safety and Security Institute, supports safety education and training programs for first responders, their families and the general public in the United States and Canada.

The grant will allow the IAFC Foundation to expand the reach of its Future Leaders Scholarship Programs and the IAFC’s Officer Development Programs (ODP), including the Company Officer Leadership Symposia (COLS), Chief Officer Leadership Symposia and Executive Chief Officer Leadership Symposia.

This is the second consecutive year that the IAFC Foundation will provide leadership training regionally to current and future fire service leaders thank to the generous support of the Motorola Solutions Foundation.

Future leaders program provides reguional company officer training

(December 31, 2014) Aspiring fire and EMS leaders in Virginia and Georgia benefitted from regional company officer development training programs offered through the IAFC Foundation, thanks to a grant from Motorola Solutions Foundation

Approximately 200 company officers from the Richmond, Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia regions participated last June and October respectively in the Company Officer Leadership Symposium (COLS) program, part of the IAFC’s Officer Development Program

The COLS program provides company officers with specific leadership training geared toward their department responsibilities. This comprehensive program has set learning objectives, many of which meet JPRs outlined in NFPA 1021 (Fire Officer I and II).
