IAFC Foundation Scholarships
The IAFC Foundation recognizes the increasingly complex world first responders operate in. Science, technology, communications and policy are constantly and rapidly changing and evolving. It's critical that our nation's first responders master the challenges of today and tomorrow. The IAFC Foundation helps ensure that our men and women are fully prepared to meet these challenges by providing increased opportunities to support their educational needs.
Am I Eligible?
Any person who is an active member with a minimum of 3 years Volunteer or 2 years Paid or a combination of Paid and Volunteer of 3 years with a state, county, provincial, municipal, community, industrial, or federal fire department and who has demonstrated proficiency as a member, is eligible to apply for a scholarship to a recognized institution of higher education.
Dependents of members are NOT eligible.
The Motorola Future Leaders Scholarship Award
The Motorola Future Leaders Scholarship Fund will provide several annual awards. Preference will be given to qualified applicants also enrolled in IAFC’s Company Officer Development Program, primarily offered at Fire Rescue International Conference (www.iafc.org). These awards are made possible with generous support from the Motorola Foundation (www.motorola.com).
Garry L. Briese Scholarship Award
The Garry L Briese Scholarship Fund, established in 2007 with generous support from the Motorola Foundation (www.motorola.com), is generally reserved for a company officer, especially targeting a Driver/Engineer and/or a Lieutenant, for his/her professional education toward AA/AS or BA/BS degree.
The Heather Westphal Memorial Scholarship Award
This recently created memorial fund was established in honor of the former IAFC Membership Marketing Manager who died in a tragic accident in October 2008 and specifically benefits female first responders. This fund was established with support from IAFC (www.iafc.org) and The International Association of Women in Fire and Emergency Services
(www.i-women.org).
IAFC Federal Military Section Award
One or more scholarship(s) will be awarded to an applicant who is an IAFC Federal Military Section Member or who works in a federal military department. The IAFC Federal Military Section is selling a coin, with proceeds to benefit the IAFC Foundation. Click here for more information.
Fire Explorers
The IAFC offers educational scholarships to Fire Explorers. Our 2009 awards are made possible with support from the Reed Elsevier Foundation. Fire Service Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.

How to Apply
Applicants must complete all sections of the application form. This includes the 250 word statement outlining your reasons for applying for assistance and explaining why you think your course of study will be useful to you in your chosen field. In evaluating the applications, preference will be given to those demonstrating need, desire, and initiative. Credits previously attained in college level courses should be listed, and a transcript furnished when possible.
